Korean Drama Review : Kill Me, Heal Me (Hangul: 킬미, 힐미)

It was so nice to finally see Ji Sung star in a new television drama, I been anticipating upon learning about this. It has been 4 years since the  last time I saw him act in Protect the Boss (Oh! except on his wedding announcement btw, it was all over the news, Gee! can't believe his married and now father to their first born daughter Kwak Ji Yoo who was born last June 12, 2015)

Kill Me, Heal Me is story about Cha Do-hyun (played by Ji Sung) a son of a wealthy family– who has seven different personalities (other known as Dissociative Identity Disorder) after faced terrible experience during his childhood. Do Hyun has to share his life with his other six personalities:

  • Shin Se Gi - he is violent but he never hurts children and women. He appers when Do-hyun experiences violence.
  • Perry Park - his a weirdo, likes to drink alcohol and speaks
  • Ahn Yo Sub - a 17 year old boy and an artist who like to commit suicide every time he appears. He is also Yo-na's twin brother.
  • Ahn Yo Na - a mischievous 17-year old girl who loves idols and has a crush with  Oh Ri On.
  • Nana - a little girl who named her teddy bear as Nana.
  • Mr. X. - a mysterious guy who is later revealed as Nana's father.
Each personality shows distinctive characters. And then one day, he met a psychiatry resident Oh Ri Jin (played by Hwang Jung Eum), who is willing to help him heal himself.

However, Ri Jin’s twin brother and a popular writer Oh Ri On (played by Park Seo Joon) also seemed to know Do Hyun since the very first time they meet on the plane. He knows that somehow Do Hyun and Ri Jin were connected to each other since they were young. His been secretly investigating Do Hyun's family background. And later tried to take advantage of his disease for his next novel, when he found out Do Hyun's personality disorder.

This drama has full package of genres, from drama, comedy, romance, to mystery! At first I find it super cool, and I was pretty impressed with the story line and Do Hyun's character. But on the long run i find it a little too monotonous for my liking. So I end-up skipping some episodes. BUT I HAVE TO GIVE JI SUNG A BIG CREDIT FOR HIS EXCELLENT ACTING SKILLS. HE DID A GOOD JOB IN THIS DRAMA. INDEED HIS ONE OF KOREA'S GREAT ACTOR IN HIS GENERATION. Park Seo Joon and Hwang Jung Eum did a good job as well they both executed there role nicely and perfectly. I'm impressed! Considering its my first time to see them act (As far as I remember).

Spoiler Alert! Read at your own risk!!!

  • Do Hyun and Ri Jin were childhood friend and used to live in the same house. Because Ri Jin mom is married to Do Hyun's father. Ri Jin's identity was keep secret until Do Hyun's grandfather decided to adopt her as his grandchild because at the time Do Hyun's dad was being disowned by his grandfather because he was living with Do Hyun's mom who his grandfather objected.
  • When Do Hyun's father decided to go back to his family, he was surprised to find out that his wife as a child and was very mad. He confronted his wife. While they were having confrontation Do Hyun's grandmother heard everything and decided to keep Ri Jin away from public eye. She was keep in a basement. The main reason why shes claustrophobic.
  • Ri-jin's real name is actually Do Hyun. When grandmother find out everything, they decided to name Ji Sung as Do Hyun because everyone from there circle of friends know that she had a grandchildren name Do Hyun.

Some of my Favorite Highlights:

  • Episode 7 - It explained the reason why the show titled “Kill Me, Heal Me”.

  • Episode 11 - Where in Oh Ri Jin and Oh Ri On performed the Team Rocket chant then going on their separate way without a word. That was too cute! This two are adorable. And Oh! Episode 7 has fair share of cuteness too, that's when time the Oh Ri On family took out their selfie stick proudly and posing together for the camera prior to Oh Ri Jin’s departure to US. His dad is a sweetheart. Really cute moments in there.

MY RATINGS: 6/10

Korean Drama Review : The Producers (Hangul: 프로듀사)

It has been a month since I finish watching this drama and I am contemplating on what to write or say, because I felt like I did not get the whole concept. At first episodes I thought this is a variety show or something because the actors where being followed and interviewed by a cameraman, asking about how they feel at work, what are there thoughts, etc.

When this was being conceptualized I was really excited and looking forward on seeing this, because it star's Kim Soo-hyun, Gong Hyo-jin, Cha Tae-hyun and IU my favorite actors and actress. But as soon as I started watching it, I end-up skipping the each episodes. I think this would be better as a variety or reality show rather than a drama. Most of the scenario's evolves the life of PD's. (In Korea, they are using "PD", denoting a person 'in charge of managing a production in a TV show or film)

And the only thing that entertain me throughout the end is IU's character. Where she plays as Cindy. The famous young Idol and celebrity known as the ice princess for her poker face and complete control over her emotions. Like common trainee story in real life, she goes to experience it also in the drama. At 13 she became a trainee and been in the business for 10 years. And the exciting part is when Cindy started to rebel with her CEO who is bossy and controlling. And then she fall in love with Kim Soo-hyun and she was really changing as a person, and trying to change her fate. Although she and Soo-hyun did not end-up being together because the latter was in love with Gong Hyo-jin while Cha Tae-hyun and her love each other.

Some of my Favorite Highlights:

  • Cindy meeting her anti-fans and becoming a moderator on one of her anti-cafe’s. Daebak!

  • Kim Da Jung (Sun Ah) – she was the most Wicked (in awesome forms) rookie writer in Hyo-jin's team. She was so confident and very sexy. She's always updated with whats going around at the entertainment world. I really like the part where in Cindy's former CEO brought in her new trainee Jini in the dressing room where in Sun Ah was waiting for them. They mistaken her as an Idol or famous celebrity where Sun Ah taught Jini and her CEO where part of a production staff. ha!ha!ha

All in all, I would not recommend this drama to anyone to watch. However, if you do like the actors then you should check it out, because they do what they do best in this series.

MY RATINGS: 4/10

Korean Drama Review : Hi! School Love On (Hangul: 하이스쿨: 러브온)

All along I thought I wasn't missing anything when it comes to watching K-dramas, and it turns out that technically I was missing this ONE in particular. Hi School Love on is a 2014 South Korean televesion series with 20 episodes under KSB. I've come to watch this, not because I was inform that this drama is good, but because I don't have anything to watch to I decided to give this a try. At first I find its title a little overrated, because when you I read something about "SCHOOL" the first thing that would ring a bell is about bullying and other school related stuff. And besides I am so immune watching this genre (thanks to Who Are You: School 2015 and Angry Mom). So you can't blame me if  I will let this pass. Plus I don't even know the actors. Not like the former and latter dramas that I've watched, I know them. Don't get me wrong Infinite fans reading this blog, I love infinite but I only know L. (but not anymore now I know Nam Woo-hyun and Lee Sung-yeol ).

When I started watching this drama, I soon fall in love with Lee Seul-bi (played by Kim Sae-ron) who doesn't??? she is sooo cute and very pretty. Her character is an angel who loves watching dramas and dream of becoming a human. Which she later become one but struggles to adjust to her new self. Thanks to Shin Woo-hyun (played by Nam Woo-hyun of Infinite) who makes her life happy in human world. Woo-hyun made Seul-bi's dream becomes reality. When he was trying to save her classmate committing suicide at the building. Woo-hyun suddenly fell off the grid and fall from the building, but Seul-bi was her guardian angel, she looks after Woo-hyun ever since he was young. And since it wasn't Woo-hyun time to die she catch him and when there bodies touch Seul-bi then become human. Waking-up from the accident with nothing to remember except the fact that she is an angel Woo-hyun keep her to his side until she regain her memory.

Sel-bi then experience the things she only saw in TV. She eats, drink, sleep, work and goes to school where Woo-hyun goes. In there she meet Hwang Sung-yeol (played by Lee Sung-yeol of Infinite) a loner, and a smart boy. He is always a top student in there school. Woo-hyun and Sung-yeol were good friends until the latter is falling in love with Seul-bi. Seul-bi and Woo-hyun on the other hand were falling in love with each other. Little by little Woo-hyun finds out Seul-bi's secret and tried his best not to tell her, or else she will vanish once someone will know that she is an angel turned human.

Seul-bi experience all the things a high school students would experience, from meeting new friends, learning a lot of new things, losing love ones (when Woo-hyun's grandmother died) and of course bullying. But whats so amazing with this drama is that it shows a good Camaraderie in every conflicts and issues they have. When Seul-bi was at the perks of dying because her classmates are now being suspicious with her personality. Woo-hyun asked them to keep quite and help save Seul-bi so she could be human for good. They all agrees to do it because they care for her. Even the ones who bully Seul-bi.

This drama is indeed very good (consider the fact that I wasn't skipping any episodes). If there is one thing I find this drama annoying it is Woo-hyun's mother. At a young age Woo-hyun was abandoned by his parents and grew up under the cares of his grandmother. When his grandmother finds out she had a cancer and will die soon. She immediately contact Woo-hyun's mother who happened to be his ethics teacher and Sung-yeol step mother which later add's more conflicts between the two.

I hate the fact that she ignore's her son, who has been longing for her in the longest time. Her excuses were so lame. And even if it was later revealed that she was Woo-hyun's mom she still tries to ignore Woo-hyun and look after her step-son who treats her badly and hates her so much. How could a mother abandoned her own child? And look after someone else child? Are there really mom's like that exist in real life? It really broke my heart seeing Woo-hyun trying to look okay even if deep inside he is breaking apart. He longs for her and want her to stay at his sides. But he couldn't utter the words because he is afraid that he might be rejected again.

One of the remarkable thing about this drama are the thoughts that the second lead actors were given a good end story. The bullies became there good friends. And there classmates end-ups with there crushes. The story line was well written and well laid out. They have good actors too, considering some of them are rookies. This is the kind of drama, worth watching for youngsters and young's at heart. So there you have it guy's. Watch it and be amaze :)

aside from Woo-hyun and Seul-bi's tandem this one also is my favorite duo. Kim Joo-ah & Yong Tae-ho. Played by Jung Yoo-min and Baek Seung-heon.

MY RATINGS: 10/10

Korean Drama Review : High Society (Hangul: 상류사회)

High Society is a 2015 South Korean television series starring Uee, Sung Joon, Park Hyung-sik and Lim Ji-yeon. Another chaebol story line lead by Uee as Jang Yoon-ha, the youngest daughter of a chaebol family who is an outcast among family member, especially her mother who mistreat her. And because of that she tries to set apart from her chaebol image and works part-time at a food market and hides her true identity as an heiress because all she truly wants is to find a man who'll love her for herself and not her money.

Ji-yi, Chang-soo, Yoon-ha and Joon-ki.
Unfortunately she end up meeting Choi Joon-ki (played by Sung Joon) who grew up poor. His father is sick while his mother work as a house keeper to an ajumma who is a mistress. Joon-ki intentionally came close to Yoon-ha with knowledge of her true background. Because his childhood friend Yoo Chang-soo (played by Park Hyung-sik) another chaebol, ask him to do a background check about Yoon-ha before meeting her on there scheduled blind date set by there families. And when he saw Yoon-ha working at the super market where he does goes to work too. He did try his best to make her fall for him. Which he succeeded. At first I enjoyed watching this drama until i started skipping the elderly scenes and the lead roles scene. And the only scene that draws interest for me is the second lead scenes. The Lee Ji-yi and Chang-soo tandem.

 BFF Yoon-ha and Ji-yi

the Love Birds =)

Lee Ji-yi (played by Lim Ji-yeon) is Yoon-ha's best friend, who doesn't know the latter true identity, at first she had a crush with Joon-Ki but gives way when she find out that her best friend also share the same feelings towards Joon Ki. While Chang-soo's is also a chaebol, and Joon-ki's boss. He falls in love with Ji-yi considering she overlooked his wealth and status. The story line of this duo is quite appealing Ji Yi was smart, down to earth, and willing to work hard, while Chang Soo was fun and cute. Together they were honestly the best part of the show including how Chang Soo's mother oppose then later accept Ji-yi and supported their relationship. I would rather watched the entire series about them doing cute couple things and arguing than having to watch the cringe worthy romance between the main leads.

Yay! that looks melt my heart.....
Giggling.....

They luck chemistry, their story line is dull and boring. The writing around both leads didn’t feel well-thought-out of. Although both Sung Joon and UEE delivered a decent performances, but still neither was actually good. They tried to make some twists but they were so obvious and boring that it didn't even come off as surprising. The one and only redeeming quality of this series, is the second lead couple. So there you have it.
nailed it with back hug!!!! =))

MY RATINGS: 8/10
(for  Lee Ji-yi and Chang-soo tandem)
MY RATINGS: 3/10
(for  Yoon-ha and Joon-ki tandem)
MY RATINGS: 5/10
(Overall)

Korean Drama Review : Yong-pal (Hangul: 용팔이)

Okay I admit I was a little an attentive with what my bias Korean actor doing lately, until I stumble Yong Pal on the street side where I usually buy my Korean Dramas. I was a little unsure with the title, and when I saw whose leading the drama, I know right and then that it is a good drama. Because without a doubt the lead male actor is Daebak!!! The best and multi-talented actor, I may sound bias but you cant blame me, his good, really good actor. I watch all his drama's from the villain Gu Majun of Baker King, there is Han Pil-hoon the rookie agent who dream of becoming the next James Bond in the 7th Grade Civil Servant, the pro-Japanese Korean police Sato Hiroshi in Bridal Mask, and lets not forget the autistic savant Park Shi-on in Good Doctor (my favorite). And now his latest drama that just ended last October 1, 2015 which top as "the most popular Korean Drama of the year". it was originally slated for 16 episodes, but due to the popularity it was extended by two episodes, ended with a total of eighteen episodes.

Yong-pal (Hangul: 용팔이; RR: Yongpal-ie) is a 2015 South Korean drama series starring my bae, the ever versatile Korean actor Moon Joo-won, my girl crush Kim Tae-hee, Chae Jung-an and Jo Hyun-jae. Joo-won played the role of a very talented surgeon at Hanshin Hospital owned by Tae-hee's family. Aside from being a resident doctor at Hanshin Joo-won is also a moonlight doctor do does surgery to gangster and criminals in order to raise money to pay his little sister’s expensive hospital fees. By doing this act he was then being called Yong-pal. While doing surgery to Doo-chul (played by Korean actor Song Kyung-chul- hahaha I remember this guy from Impress Ki) a gangster president, Yong-pal lost his scalpel which lead Detective Lee and Kim in tracing his whereabouts. It was then revealed to his superior Chief Lee (played by my favorite villain in Korean dramas Jung Woong-in). Yong-pal or Kim Tae-hyun was then became his under dog, doing house calls for their wealthy clients/patients in 12th floor of Hanshin Hospital who's doing criminal and illegal activities. He soon find out the mystery behind the restricted area at the 12th floor, where in there lays Han Yeo-jin (played by Kim Tae Hee) a chaebol heiress placed in a coma by her half-bother Han Do Joon (played by actor Jo Hyun Jae). Their paths cross. He was then assign to look after Yeo-jin. While looking after her, Tae Hyun’s sister takes a turn for the worse. He desperately needs money, for his younger sister surgery and suddenly Yeo-jin woke up from her sleep and offer Tae-hyun the money if he helps her escape. And so he did. And later realize they were falling in love with each other. He did not only help her escape but also getting back her throne as the real owner of Hanshin Group. They got married so that Tae Hyun can be Yeo Jin’s legal guardian instead of Do Joon.

I love watching this drama, except on the last few episodes wherein Yeo-jin is becoming a little bad person, because of her eagerness to seek revenge to people who put her in sleep for 3 years. In-spite the fact that Tae-hyun is asking her to forget everything and start anew. She still don't listen which lead a little rift between the two. Tae Hyun then decides it is time to leave, because he know he doesn't belong to Yeo Jin's world. And even if he convince Yeo Jin to step down and go with him the latter rejects his offer.

Spoiler Alert! Read at your own risk!!!

  • Do-Joon died by the hands of Yeo-jins dead fiancee's father because it was him who manipulated Yeo-jin and his ex-fiance's car accident.
  • Kim Tae Hyun is now living a quiet life as a doctor in a small village with his sister who is now recovered from her illness.
  • Yeo-jin is now willing to let go of her throne and go back to Tae Hyun's arm.
  • Chae Young (played by Chae Jung An) is out for revenge for the death of her husband. It was then too late for her to realize that she is in love with her husband. And because of Do Joon death she orchestrated a plot to take over the company by slowly poisoning Yeo Jin. In result Yeo-Jin has a liver cancer, her condition quickly deteriorates. She was rushed to the hospital but no doctors would dare to operates her, because her condition is no good. Even Chief Lee can't save her for the second time around. Chief Lee was the one who save Yeo jin after her car accident at the surgery room. But and the last minute Cynthia came back to Korea and brought someone to save Yeo Jin's life. Her business partner called “Yong Pal”. Yeo Jin’s surgery is successful, and when she awakens, Tae Hyun asks, “Do you know who I am?” And she answers, “Yong Pal.” -THE END.
I was a little disappointed on how the drama ends, because I felt like it was cut short, even if it has been extended already. But overall, Yong Pal was a good drama to watch. The story is compelling with a great pace. Another good drama to add for Moon Joo Won's fan archive.

MY RATINGS: 10/10

Have you been watching Yong Pal? What do you think about it? Share your thoughts! Happy Drama Watching everyone!!!
